  1. What is coaching? The ICF (International Coach Federation) says coaching is "partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. Coaches provide an ongoing partnership designed to help clients produce fulfilling results in their personal and professional lives. Coaches help people improve their performances and enhance the quality of their lives. Coaches are trained to listen, to observe and to customize their approach to individual client needs. They seek to elicit solutions and strategies from the client; they believe that the client is naturally creative and resourceful. The coach's job is to provide support to enhance the skills, resources and creativity that the client already has." Coaching is action-oriented and focused on the present and the future.

  2. What is the role of a coach? A personal coach is a partner, collaborator, supporter, and encourager. While a personal coach may offer tools and strategies for clients to try on, it is not the role of a coach to give advice or direct a client in any way. A coach assists clients in generating solutions and action steps in ways that are congruent with the client's personality, worldview, lifestyle, and goals. Through active listening and observation, a coach may pose thought-provoking questions so that clients may examine their own thoughts and behaviors, and discover areas in which they may feel stuck and desire change. Additionally, the coach provides a structure and framework for the coaching process in order to create organization and focus for the client's optimal growth and success.

  3. How do I know if coaching is right for me? Do you have specific goals you are hoping to achieve in your personal and/or professional life? Do you generally feel that you are functioning well overall, and want to take your life and relationships to the next level? Are you highly motivated toward self-awareness and self-improvement? Are you ready to commit to yourself and your life and do what it takes to achieve your goals and dreams? If you answered "Yes!" to any of the above questions, coaching just might be a great fit for you.

  4. How long does the process take for me to see results? As one might expect, progress in coaching is based highly on the individual or family and where they are at, what they want to achieve, how frequently they are engaging in coaching, how motivated they are toward growth and change, and many other factors. That said, it is expected that clients will experience some level of positive change quite rapidly, within three months. Other clients may have a number of areas they are working to grow in, and may be looking for longer-term support. The length of the coaching relationship is always determined by the client's needs and goals.

  5. What is the cost of coaching?
